To translate these discoveries into therapies, Agios has assembled a world-class drug discovery and development team to create novel first-in-class targeted therapies against these metabolism targets. While cancer metabolism is Agios’ current focus, altered metabolism is a hallmark of many disease states, and our capabilities can be applied to interrogating the aberrant cellular metabolism of a range of human diseases. This approach could therefore have broad potential therapeutic application in additional diseases beyond cancer. In November 2011, Agios announced the continued advancement of its cancer metabolism pipeline and the expansion into developing drugs against targets in inborn errors of metabolism, a class of genetic diseases.
