Director –ADME/PK - DD01
Agios Pharmaceuticals (www.agios.com) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is
the first biopharmaceutical company dedicated to drug discovery based on targeting cancer metabolism, which offers the potential for a new class of
oncology therapeutics targeting metabolic pathways critical to cancer cell
growth, proliferation and survival. With new research showing that cancer cells
become addicted to using more nutrients than normal cells to promote their rapid growth, there is an unprecedented opportunity to create a new class of oncology therapeutics that target a fundamental and ubiquitous mechanism in cancer
cells. The intersection of these two fields of research – cancer and metabolism- represents an important and novel approach to treating cancer. This new understanding of a fundamental mechanism of cancer survival represents
a new and powerful Achilles’ Heel to target this deadly disease.
Agios is developing novel drugs that will primarily target three key
metabolic pathways — glycolysis (sugar metabolism), fatty acid metabolism,
and autophagy (self-metabolism). The founders’ scientific insights, and the expertise and guidance of the Company’s Scientific Advisory Board and Management, drive the company’s mission of developing a deep pipeline of therapeutics to treat cancer in a completely new and fundamental way —
through blocking their fuel, causing the cells to ‘starve to death.’
The Company is focused on achieving rapid and clinically significant human
proof of concept and on building a deep and diversified product pipeline
designed to target the metabolic pathways responsible for the growth and
survival of cancer cells.
Responsibilities
- Lead the expansion and ongoing implementation of Agios’ Informatics Platform for cancer metabolismArchitect best-in-class informatics platform that enables systems level understanding of cancer biology and metabolism
- Lead diverse activities including development of novel algorithms, data analysis, biostatistics, modeling, and data management/infrastructure
- Support projects throughout the pharmaceutical pipeline, from target discovery through drug discovery and clinical stages
- Oversee the daily operations of the informatics team, provide guidance on and execution of informatics projects at a scientific and technical level.
- Interact with members of Discovery Technologies team to develop and implement informatics tools to support Agios high-throughput metabolomics and pathway biochemistry platform
Qualifications
- Confident and strategic leader with strong managerial skills
- Demonstrated success in leading/establishing informatics capabilities & infrastructure
- Broad informatic/ bioinformatic background including data management, data analysis, mining large datasets, biostatistics, modeling
- Experience and high degree of comfort in small molecule drug discovery and development
- State-of-art knowledge and skills in cancer genomics, biomarker discovery in development in oncology
- Understanding of informatics industry practices and components such as database and operating systems, computing scalability, cloud utilization and networks
- Hands-on skills with structured development environments, software development and release lifecycles
- Proven record of successful delivery of multi platform software solutions
- Ph.D. plus 10+ years experience with proven capability to both build internal teams and effectively establish network of collaborators and/or outsource partners
- Proven track record of scientific success as evidenced by strong record of publication and public presentations
- Outstanding communication skills to lead and manage internal and external activities
